The extended holiday weekend brought some great hockey to the Brazos Valley, as six teams competed during the MLK Tournament at Spirit Ice Arena in College Station. The Aggies faced the University of Washington Huskies in their first game on Friday night. The Aggies jumped out to a 4-0 lead, but the Huskies clawed their way back into the game with the help of some Aggie penalties and a strong team effort in the third period completing the comeback win of 6-5 over the Aggies.
Saturday night the Aggies faced-off against the Loyola Marymount Lions and rebounded with a decisive victory by a score of 8-2 over the Lions.
Sunday's game would determine the second place team in the tournament with both the Aggies and Matadors having identical points in the tournament standings. Folks, I have been watching the Aggies play now for some 15 years and I believe this game was the best of all I have seen....It had everything, great goaltending, team strategy, penalty shot, fights, physical play, and good puck movement...After the hard-fought game, the Aggies proved to be the better team, beating the Cal-State University at Northridge Matadors by a score of 2-1.
The Aggies play the next couple of games against the University of Texas Longhorns, in Allen on January 21 @ 4:00 PM and College Station on February 3 @ 7:30 PM.
