Texas A&M University Aggies (1) VS. Eastern Washington University Eagles (4)
In our second trip to Colorado for the 2009-2010 season, the 10th ranked Aggies were again the underdogs against the 3rd ranked Eagles. EWU had earned and enjoyed solid success over the past several years with multiple trips to both the Regionals and Nationals. As we know, the Aggies earned the first Div II ranking for any Texas hockey team.
Eastern Washington looked very comfortable from the get go – great tempo and speed, lots of shots, solid systems while the Aggies appeared tentative and conservative. The combination allowed one lone first period goal to the Eagles at 15:34 and 7:33.
The Aggies re-grouped over the period break. However, so did the Eagles as they double their lead at 18:41 and 8:20.
With a 4-0 3rd period deficit, the Aggies continued the battles for pride and honor with 15 of their 25 shots in the 3rd period. The Eagles continued their offensive attacks and again produced their 3rd consecutive 18 shot period.
However, the perseverance of the Aggies paid dividends. With :45 seconds remaining in the game, Senior Justin Cooley fed Senior Nick Culliton at the point. A rising slap shot top corner put A&M on the board for a final score, 4-1.
Claire Gannon, the A&M goal tender, played an outstanding game.
We congratulate the Eagles on their victory as we wish them continued success through Regionals and Nationals. We trust the opportunity for a re-match in future seasons.

With our 3rd consecutive 20 win season, the 10th ranking of the 2009-2010 concluded the most successful season in the history of Texas A&M University Ice Hockey.
Many stars needed to align for this success – Parents, AWIC Staff, Executive, Sponsors, Hockey Moms, Icers and loyal fans - to enjoy the fastest game on ice. We thank you again as we look forward to 2010-2011 with greater expectations.
Have a great summer!
