University of Texas - San Antonio Game 2...

Texas A&M University Aggies (5) VS. University of Texas – San Antonio Road Runners (0)

The Saturday evening contest was truly an extension of Friday’s game – physical, penalty filled with multiple scoring opportunities. Shots on goal were not recorded for either game, and the score did not reflect the tempo of this game as both goalies ‘stood on their heads’ thwarting both offenses.

The Aggies opened the scoring with 7:35 remaining in the period. Phil Lowery initiated a smooth breakout to Justin Cooley to create a two-on-one entering the UTSA zone. Eric Engelking finished the play with a shot through the slot.

On a five-on-three opportunity at 12:27 in the second period, A&M scored the lone tally of this period. With strong un-encumbered puck control, Justin Cooley fed Engelking for an accurate slap shot from the point.

The score remained 2-0 until 13:25 in the 3rd period. With the Aggies enjoying another five-on-three, Michael Molge and Cooley again established strong puck control and created an open ice shot. Engelking alertly banged home the rebound.

At even strength, the Aggies add to their lead at 11:15. Brian Young fed Dustin Roark with an accurate break out pass and joined the offensive rush. With a pass exchange, Young fired on the UTSA net-minder and Roark captured the rebound, 4-0.

With 4:00 remaining, Aggies finish the evening’s scoring with a short-handed, end-to-end individual effort by Young.

Again, the game was much closer than the score as both goalies truly earned their day’s pay. However, the Aggies offense triumphed and the defense removed the second shot opportunities of the Roadrunners.

Game Notes:

32 penalties assessed: Aggies 16 UTSA 15
Eric Engelking scores a natural Hat Trick – his first on the season.
Kyle Vrla records a well-earned ‘zero’ on his personal second (team third) shut-out.
